Your ads should be in Galician too

On social media, right now there should be around 100 million ads. Reaching Spain in Spanish, around 5 million. But reaching Galician users in Galician? Probably around 30 (and almost certainly just from Galician brands).

If a Galician user sees 200 ads per month (150 in Spanish, 49 in English and 1 in Galician), which one do you think will grab their attention the most?

These figures are made up, but the scenario is real: You can easily stand out from the crowd just by translating or transcreating your ads into Galician. And if you want some real figures I gathered last year (full report in Galician):

  • More than 80% of Galician people advocate for ads in Galician.
  • More than 90% of Galician citizens consider Galician as a perfectly valid language to market prestige, high-level and reliable goods.
  • 39.5% of Galician people feel attracted to an ad just because it was in Galician.
  • 29.5% of people would try a new product just because it was labeled in Galician.
  • Using Galician is seen as beneficial among 75% of Galician citizens.
  • Galician communicates trust and proximity.
  • Galician is a sign of quality, origin, authenticity and trust.
  • The Galician language sells by connecting with potential clients.
  • And a bonus not included in my report: 60% of young people in Galicia considers the use of the Galician language as an incentive to buy.

So now you know it. Standing out from your competitors has never been so easy!

Extra bonus: I don’t have any numbers, but I probably won’t be wrong if I say this also applies to the use of Catalan and Basque in ads. So if you are targeting Spain with your ads, you should really consider this for the bilingual regions.
